This is the true story of why The Continuity Co. exists—and why we believe leave should never put a company at risk.

This didn’t start as an idea.
It started as survival.

The Continuity Co. is built from lived experience, by founders for founders.
I'm Sam Gardner, mom of 3 and a former venture-backed founder. I’ve launched, scaled, hired, fired, fundraised, sold, and survived. I understand what early-stage companies need. That means I know who can step in and actually do the job.

I’ve been there, in the moments no one plans for.
I’ve been there, in the moments no one plans for.
I’ve been the founder writing handoff docs at 37 weeks pregnant. I’ve been the CEO taking calls from the NICU. Checking Slack while holding a newborn. Trying to decide which fire to put out first: a missed investor email or a missed nap.
I'm Sam Gardner, mom of 3 and a former venture-backed founder. I’ve launched, scaled, hired, fired, fundraised, sold, and survived.
I’m also someone who skipped maternity leave with my third baby who I had while running my venture-backed, AI startup, Happypillar.
At the time, it felt responsible. Necessary. Like what serious founders do.
Looking back, it was a warning sign.

The lie we tell founders: “Just stay lightly involved.”
The lie we tell founders: “Just stay lightly involved.”
I told myself I could do both. Recover and lead. Bond and be available. Rest and keep the company moving.
Early postpartum doesn’t work like that.
The needs of recovery and the needs of running a company pull you in opposite directions—and pretending otherwise doesn’t make it easier. It just makes it lonelier.
I created The Continuity Company because no founder should have to choose between building a business and bonding with their baby. You deserve time to recover, time to be a parent, and time to breathe, without guilt and without wondering if your startup will still be there when you come back.

You need someone who can:
You need someone who can:

Prioritize what matters
Prioritize what matters

Handle what no one else can
Handle what no one else can

Know when to ask and when to act
Know when to ask and when to act
That’s what we do.
That’s what we do.

Let’s do this together.
Let’s do this together.
We provide the support no one else can during your leave. There’s something about that crazy founder energy that just can’t be replicated. You need someone who’s done it before, someone who’s scrappy and someone who gets it. The Continuity Co. is your answer.

"Last week I had a random question I was sure would take forever to solve. Our MatChat surfaced it instantly. This is what we need more of. If you’re a founder going on parental leave, or you have key people heading out soon, talk to the team at The Continuity Co. Companies like this are how we close the gap—so more women can build companies AND families without having to choose."

We step in as interim, embedded leadership so founders can take parental leave, health leave, or a needed reset—without losing momentum, investor confidence, or team stability.
